The Medical Center is giving babies a healthy start in life thanks to a $31,308 grant from Kohl's Cares®. The grant helps fund The Medical Center's Newborn Care & Safety Class which teaches expectant parents, new parents and grandparents essential baby care skills.

The Newborn Care and Safety Class is one of the most important classes that expectant parents can take as they prepare for the birth of their child. The class allows expectant parents to feel more confident and comfortable caring for their newborn. During this free, hands-on class participants use baby dolls to practice swaddling and holding a newborn, diapering and giving the baby a bath. A variety of safety issues are addressed, and a CPR demonstration shows parents what to do in an emergency.

Participants of the class receive free tote bags, also funded by the Kohl's grant, which include items such as a Lullaby CD, DNA identification kit, baby bath sponge, bath water temperature tester, infant CPR refrigerator magnet, and baby safety gift set. A baby monitor is given away at each monthly class, along with attendees' names placed in a quarterly drawing for a stroller.
