The Milk Bank

The Medical Center is a milk donor "depot" for The Milk Bank in Indianapolis. If you are a mother who is currently lactating or have recently finished, you might be a good candidate for donating your excess milk. If you're in good general health and willing to donate at least 100 ounces of milk by your baby's second birthday, your milk may save lives. Donating milk is easier than you might think.

Steps to becoming a donor include:

  • Call The Milk Bank at 317-536-1670 to complete a quick phone screen
  • Fill out a donor application and medical history form
  • Discuss any medication you may be taking
  • Have your healthcare provider and your baby's healthcare provider sign consent forms
  • Undergo a blood test similar to that of a blood donor at no cost to you

Once approved, you will be given the supplies you need to drop off your excess milk at The Medical Center. From there, the milk will be sent to The Milk Bank where it is bottled, pasteurized and tested for sterility by an independent lab. The Medical Center at Bowling Green uses milk from The Milk Bank in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

If you are interested in saving lives by donating breastmilk, please contact the Lactation Office at The Medical Center by calling 270-796-2108.
