The Medical Center has two Telemetry units which are medical/surgical units that care for the acutely ill cardiac patient. Congestive heart failure, chest pain, angina, AMI, and COPD are common diagnoses. 5B also serves as a back up Stroke unit for 3D (Orthopaedics and Neuroscience).
Procedural patients include but are not limited to: cardiac catheterization, stents, electrophysiology, and implantable pacemaker devices. Wireless remote monitoring for all beds is fed into a central monitoring location manned by two monitor technicians.
Each telemetry unit consists of 24 beds and has a 1:6 nurse/patient ratio.
