Surgery

Our patient-centered team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetist, first assistants, nurses, surgical techs and other staff collaborate to ensure the patient’s experience is the best possible in the surgical services area. The Medical Center performs over 13,000 surgical cases a year which includes both inpatient and outpatient procedures. The surgical services provided include: ENT, general, gynecology, neurosurgery, open heart, ophthalmology, oral, orthopaedic, plastic, urology, and vascular surgery.

The surgery department is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A variety of staff schedules are used to cover all shifts. Each surgery has at least one nurse, and as the acuity of the case increases, other nurse ratios will be used for one patient.

The surgical services area has recently implemented the PICIS computerized documentation system. Electronic documentation allows a nurse to remotely access information, reduce repetition in documentation, store information for later retrieval and provide a communication source among health care providers.

The surgery department has technical equipment including the da Vinci® Surgical System, Stealth Navigation System, PACS radiology system, computer-assisted knee software, multiple types of lasers, laparoscopic systems, imaging systems, and a variety of technology used each day. The Medical Center believes in being progressive when technology enhances patient care.
